Fifteen-year-old Binsa* from UWS Kalleri School has turned her grief from her mother’s death into a lifelong determination to improve access to health care in rural Nepal.

Binsa is a strong-willed, determined girl from a small village in Sankhuwasabha Province. She lives with her father and her siblings in a house made of mud and stone. Her siblings and father encourage her to complete her education. They want to see Binsa live her life independently.

Sadly, when Binsa was very young, her mother passed away due to a lack of access to good healthcare.

Binsa told us, “If my mother had been able to get the proper treatment, then she would still be here with us. Therefore, I aspire to become a nurse and change the health system in rural parts of Nepal and serve people so that no one has to die because of inadequate treatment facilities”.

Binsa has just graduated from UWS Kalleri School, and is now in Grade 9 at Secondary School.

“At first, I was scared. I did not know many students,” she shared, “but I have started making friends now.”

Besides excelling in academics, Binsa is also good in extracurricular activities such as dancing, reading, and writing poems. She dreams of traveling and one day wishes to travel to different places in Nepal.
