Where We Work
We work with remote and marginalized communities where providing education is most challenging but most needed.
UWS is currently working in four countries, with a focus on the most remote and marginalized areas where children have no chance to receive a quality education (and where many will have never set foot in a classroom).
Our Approach
The 5 ‘pillars’ for sustainable education:
GIRL’S EDUCATION
Exclusion from paid work costs women $6 trillion in lost earnings. Yet when 10% more girls attend school, that country’s GDP increases by an average of 3%.
Educated mothers are 50% more likely to immunize their children than mothers with no schooling, and their children are twice as likely to survive past the age of five.
One in every 3 girls in developing countries is married before the age of 18. Education is shown to reduce child marriage by 60%.

Our bold vision of ‘Zero Education Poverty’ reflects the scale of UWS’ ambition for the future.
Globally, 1 in 6 children are currently out of school and we believe our model can be scaled and replicated to change this story at pace.
To realize this vision, with our partners we will continue to:
- Increase access to free quality education and improve learning outcomes for some of the world’s poorest children
- Ensure education is inclusive, with a focus on empowering female students
- Build partnerships to strengthen national education systems and ensure access to education for generations to come
